Project Description

Tanya Saraiya is a first year doctoral student at Adelphi University in clinical psychology. She is interested in researching at the intersection of minorities, trauma, and addictions, particularly the relationship of interpersonal trauma to the cycle of addiction. Currently, she is working in Dr. Denise Hien’s lab, researching how attention-bias modification can reduce anxiety symptoms and assist in treatment efficacy for trauma-exposed populations. Through TRACC, she aims to create a pilot study investigating the role of cultural variables in the etiology of trauma and substance abuse. Tanya received her bachelor’s degree in the biological sciences from the University of Florida. She strives to maintain an interdisciplinary view in psychological research in order to bridge the gap between mental health services and medical services. Tanya aspires to become a clinical researcher and practitioner, integrating trauma and addiction treatments into medical settings
