Mudassir Mumtaz is currently a 4th year student in the Sophie Davis Program at the City College of New York (CCNY)/CUNY School of Medicine (CSOM). Mudassir received a B.S. in Biomedical Science from CCNY in 2017 and is currently pursuing a M.D. degree from CSOM. As a part of the TRACC program, he has participated in research studies examining overdose risk factors among intravenous and intranasal heroin users and has contributed to a variety of clinical investigations at the New York State Psychiatric Institute, such as an investigation into the efficacy of naloxone training in reducing opiate overdose risk. Under the mentorship of Dr. Jermaine Jones, he is currently examining anxiety sensitivity and reward/punishment learning and their association with the development of opioid use disorder. Through his education and clinical research experiences, Mudassir has become interested in understanding the intersection between the social/cultural factors and the neurological mechanisms contributing to the development of substance use disorders.
