Teresa Lopez-Castro, PhD

Dr. Lopez-Castro is an assistant professor in the Psychology Department of The City College of New York and a licensed clinical psychologist. She completed her undergraduate degree (History) from Columbia College, Columbia University, a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The Graduate Center at The City University of New York, and a postdoctoral clinical fellowship in Addiction Psychology at The Addiction Institute, Mount Sinai West. She is the 2021 President of the Division on Addiction of The New York State Psychological Association. Dr. Lopez-Castro’s research focuses on the mechanisms which connect traumatic stress to substance misuse and how these mechanisms may inform more personalized treatments for their co-occurrence. In collaboration with the Division of General Internal Medicine at Einstein / Montefiore, Dr. Lopez-Castro is currently developing a low-barrier PTSD treatment for participants of syringe service programs.
