Tanya Saraiya, PhD

Dr. Tanya Saraiya is a licensed clinical psychologist and Assistant Professor in the Center of Alcohol and Substance Use Studies and Department of Clinical Psychology in GSAPP. Tanya’s research focuses on the development, adaptation, and evaluation of integrated treatments for PTSD and co-occurring substance use disorders to historically marginalized populations, such as women, racial and ethnic minorities, and individuals with complex, clinical presentations. She has a NIDA-funded K23 examining how to modify an integrated treatment for PTSD and co-occurring substance use disorders (COPE; Back et al., 2014) to individuals with PTSD and opioid use disorder. Her most recent work examined how to modify such treatments to women with PTSD and opioid use disorder. She collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to study how technological adjuncts can augment PTSD and SUD treatment and the relationship between racial trauma, PTSD, and SUD. She enjoys and welcomes new patients and students to clinical research.

Tanya received a B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of Florida and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University. She completed a predoctoral internship, NIDA-funded T32 postdoctoral fellowship, and was previously a faculty member at MUSC. She is also an adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at MUSC in Charleston, South Carolina.
