Suky Martinez
Dr. Martinez is a clinical psychologist and a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he is currently under the mentorship of Jermaine Jones, Ph.D. Dr. Martinez earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Adelphi University. His research primarily focuses on developing novel therapeutics for substance use disorders and deepening our understanding of drugs and addiction. He conducts investigations in humans to study the subjective and objective effects of various drugs, including opioids, methamphetamine, and tobacco. Additionally, Dr. Martinez investigates resilience, specifically examining its underlying mechanisms and contributing factors. To understand the complexity of addiction, he integrates and employs a range of rigorous methodologies informed by clinical psychology, neuroscience, behavioral pharmacology, and behavioral genetics. Dr. Martinez is broadly interested in better understanding the heterogeneity observed across various psychopathologies and enhancing the precision of diagnostics for these syndromes. His long-term goal is to refine and develop novel personalized interventions for individuals suffering from addiction and other mental disorders.
