Avalon Moore

Avalon Moore is a clinical psychology PhD student within the Health Psychology and Clinical Science training area at the City University of New York’s Graduate Center. Her research centers on: (a) identifying trauma-related risk factors that influence recovery trajectories among women with substance use disorders (SUDs); (b) examining how purpose, meaning-making, and social connectedness contribute to recovery capital; and (c) developing gender-specific interventions for women with SUD. Prior to joining the TRACC program, Avalon’s research explored gender differences in trauma and substance use–related psychopathology among U.S. veteran populations, as well as quantifying the intersection between traumatic experiences and obsessive–compulsive symptom domains in treatment-seeking individuals. As a TRACC Scholar, under the mentorship of Dr. Teresa López-Casto, she is currently investigating the impact of moral injury on recovery outcomes among women in remission from opioid use disorder (OUD). Following completion of her doctoral training, Avalon aims to pursue a career in addiction psychology and recovery science, applying the theoretical and research competencies cultivated through the TRACC fellowship, to advance evidence-based interventions for women affected by trauma and addiction.
